Following Aphex Twin and Bjork, who have been announced earlier, the last remaining headliner slot went to Gorillaz! This group, who surprised fans with the announcement last week on Instagram that their full album -- the first in seven years -- will be released late next month, will finally appear at Fuji Rock.
■Who is Gorillaz?
Gorillaz is a virtual band recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the "most successful virtual band" after their debut album sold over 7 million copies. The masterminds behind it are British pop representative Blur's Damon Albarn and Jaimie Hewlett, opera stage design comic artist and author of "Tank Girl," which is immensely popular not only in his native Britain but also in the United States.
The band has headlined in the past at some of the world's largest music festivals, including Glastonbury Festival and Coachella. At Glastonbury Festival, it collaborated with famous guest musicians such as the late Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg and Shaun Ryder. What kind of miracle will they create for us at Naeba? Don't miss the chance to witness the birth of a new legend on this attention-grabbing stage!
Next, from Australia will be Jet, which has just revived in February after disbanding in 2012. Fuji Rock will be the memorable stage of their restart in Japan.
From Japan, THE BACK HORN, whose aggressive sounds are paired with strong and poetic Japanese lyrics in the form of rock music, will be returning to Naeba for the first time in five years. Other seasoned performers such as 10-Feet, which is marking its 20th anniversary this year, as well as new generation bands such as The Novembers, which will be appearing for the second time in three years after making a detour, and Indies populars The fin. and Yogee New Waves will also take part.
Besides Takkyu Ishino, who has made the most appearances at Fuji Rock than any other artist, R&B veteran star The Golden Cups, which will be marking its 50th anniversary, will participate for the first time, adding new colors to Fuji Rock. For those who decide to go to Fuji Rock after seeing this latest announcement, there is still time to secure your tickets through advance reservations as shown below:
■Tickets now available through 1st round of advance sales!
Wristbands will be delivered in advance so no need to wait in line on the day.
The best way to buy Fuji Rock tickets at reasonable prices will be to make use of advance reservations, which will be available twice.
