For JETs past and upcoming, it's no surprise if you received a placement that's not what you requested. Many may have asked for a lively city position, but instead received a quiet countryside placement you've never heard of and no where near a city.
That's totally fine. Rural Japan maybe quiet, but it brings a charm most in the city would not find. The friendly towns, schools and peaceful nature are somethings that can be accustomed to very quickly and enjoyed through your JET year/s.
For future JETs skeptical on what life in rural Japan maybe like, from the west side of Kumamoto to the North East regions in Iwate; here is "Four Seasons in Rural Japan".
